I went and saw RENT last night! Yes, the night of July 14th was possibly the best night of my LIFE. So my friend and I showed up in Boston at like 6ish and went to McDonalds. After eating there, we started walking to the theater. We bumped into my other friend who was going to see a movie in the nearby movie theater, and she was like, "I WANNA SEE RENT, GARRR." So we laughed about that then me and my first friend went to the theater- the Colonial- and waited in line. They started letting everyone in and me and we passed a sign that said that Adam Pascal WOULDN'T be in the production that night. Which upset me, but it said NOTHING ABOUT ANTHONY RAPP! So my friend and I waited for the show to start in our seats, texting my second friend the whole time. It turned out that the seats that she and her family had reserved at the movies hadn't been reserved, so they got cheap, last-minute tickets for the show! So we all got to see it together
So we're waiting for the show, and I didn't know how to feel about what I was about to see, since I LOVE the movie cast and can't picture it performed with any other people. Then suddenly we heard an announcement that it was going to start soon and everyone was like, "WOOOOOOOOO". So the whole audience is waiting, because the house lights are up, and then suddenly there's movement. A blondish-orange-ish haired man comes strolling out onto the stage with a heavy jacket and a striped scarf. He stops int he middle of the stage and the audience EXPLODED, seeing as it was ANTHONY FRICKIN' RAPP. He had to wait like a minute and a half for applause to die down so he could start the damn play XD
So they start the play, and it was AMAZING. It was BRILLIANTLY done. My two (well technically three) favorite parts involved Anthony Rapp. First, during La Vie Boheme during the line "mucho masturbation" (sung by Mark) Rapp lifted the table in front of him a few inches and did a couple pelvic thrusts at it XD It was mildly amazing. Then the second/third thing that I loved was the fact that when he seems to throw himself into singing a song, he bends forward a bit, pulls his arms/shoulders in, and lifts one foot a couple inches off the ground. HE DID THAT TWICE in What You Own. I nearly died of excitement. Oh, and another thing I liked was when he said "fuck". Like I told my friend, every time he said "fuck" there was a party in my brain and everyone was invited and drunk as hell.
I was unsure of how I'd feel about the rest of the cast though... I went into it like, "Don't be disappointed if Maureen isn't awesome like Idina Menzel. Angel could have his own flair. Collins might not be as deep but still good. Mimi might be less intense about her sluttiness. Et cetera, et cetera." GUESS WHAT. I WAS WRONG. Maureen (top right) was fabulous- not like Idina's portrayal, but had her own flair that was really great. Angel was brilliant, and he was really fun to watch- very bubbly like you expect Angel to be, but still had that deepness about him. Collins wasn't quite as deep (I mean his voice btw) but he was still good. I was mildly disappointed that he didn't get the "I'll cover you" in the song after Angel dies quite like I like it, but he was still very good (he rushed his speech in La Vie Boheme a bit though...). Mimi was good. Hot damn she was good. She threw herself into it. Joanne played with the length of her words a bit when it came to singing, but it was good. Benny was no Taye Diggs, but still okay- I liked his voice well enough. ROGER WAS A ROCKSTAR. I mean, I would've died of happiness if I had seen Adam Pascal AND Anthony Rapp, but this other guy playing Roger was damn good! (Not what I was expecting/hoping, but not bad at all).
So after the show me and my friends all found the stage door (because we're hopeless fangirls at heart and wanted a glimpse of Anthony Rapp) and waited for like, 45 minutes. During that time, Maureen and Roger both came out to sign autographs and probably go home. Me and my friends got a picture with both of them, which was so great They were really nice during the two minutes we met them before they moved on to sign more autographs.
Then a sudden wave of excitement passed through the small crowd gathered and everyone was like, "OMG LOOKIT WHO IT IS!!!!!" And my friend was like, "OMG I CAN SEE HIS HAIRRRRR." Anthony Rapp had come out to sign autographs And so he walked down the line, signing everything thrust at him. He didn't have time to pose for pictures but my friend took a picture of him without us while he was going by- I'm not complaining though, 'cos I got to see his amazing square-jawed, orange-ish-blondish hair and those awesome glasses He's so handsome He actually walked down the line, then walked back inside, so that means he probably came out JUST TO SIGN PAPERS FOR PEOPLE. Which was really nice of him.
I'll probably remember more stuff about it later. For now, I'm gonna bask in the happiness
In case you can't read my handwriting: Roger- Joshua Kobak Maureen- Nicolette Hart MARK- ANTHONY RAPP
