Exciting News

Journal Entry: Sat Jul 26, 2008, 11:43 AM
So I got a YouTube account and I made a weird little video with my friend. My account is at [link] I've been working on editing other videos, which is cool (for me).

But that wasn't what I was going to say originally, I just felt like saying that because, well... I don't know actually. Oh well. ANYWHOO, SarabiLioness posted a bulletin on YouTube the other day and I checked it out, and it was about a project that she was working on with a friend, and apparently they needed voice actors for it. It's a Watership Down fanmade thingy. And so I watched the movie and as much of the show as I could on YouTube and asked if I could help out a bit, and I am now playing Cocoa :D Yay for me! I'm pretty excited for it. I've always wanted to do voice acting. I mean, I could work in my pajamas. Even though I'll probably end up working in my pajamas anyways, because it's a project that's being done by people who are possibly all over the globe (the one who is spearheading it lives in the UK if I remember correctly). So that's pretty much the coolest thing to happen to me in a while.

Another cool thing that's happening is my birthday is August 1st, which I'm totally excited about. It'll mean I'll only have one more year until I can get my license/drive/date older guys (;)). And it'll mean only six more years until I can drink (legally)! (Just kidding, alchohol is gross, don't drink, it's bad *parental finger wave of doom*).

So yeah, that's some pretty cool stuff. I'm more excited for the day after my birthday though because I'll get to go to an improv meeting. I could care less about how old I am when there's improv going on somewhere.

HEYOOOO!!!!

I'M BACKKKK!!!!!!!!

Y'all missed me. I don't even have to ask.

Anywhoo, my vacation was absolutely awesome! I stayed at the Ritz-Carlton (*squeal*!) and got to go to Disney World, Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, and probably best of all, I got to go to Animal Kingdom. I loved Animal Kingdom and saw two animals I never thought I'd see: an okapi and a tapir. I saw a lion's back too, which was cool, except he was just sleeping, and his lionesses weren't around. So I only got to see one lion back and it was slightly boring, but I did see a lion! I got like an hour of film of the different animals in Animal Kingdom, and a lot of two tigers.

One of the funniest things by far that I heard on the vacation was near the gorilla exhibit. A black man and woman were near the gorilla exhibit and the woman suddenly is like, "There's one right there! You missed it!" And the man was like, "It's alright. I see enough big black butts at home." And you know he was sleeping on the couch that night.

The best thing that happened on the vacation has a super awesome result: We (me and my parents) went into a store called 'The Art of Disney' and we started poking around. I found a picture of Simba and Mufasa during the "We'll always be pals, right?" moment and decided to buy it. I walked around the store and my parents brought over a picture of Simba. It was only drawn in pencil and you could see the red guide lines underneath it. Turns out it was drawn by an original animator of The Lion King. My parents brought me to a bin of pictures of characters from like at least twenty different Disney movies, all drawn by original animators from the movies. So I poked around the store a bit more after rifling through them and putting the Simba picture back. I couldn't resist going back to the bin but when I looked through the TLK stuff the Simba picture was gone. I was kinda unhappy because I was gonna see if I could get some more money from my parents, but it was gone, so I just walked away towards the counter where my parents were paying for the stuff we were buying, wishing hopelessly that they were secretly buying the Simba picture as a birthday present to me (which is selfish, but I wanted it). So we go out to the car and my parents put the bag of stuff we had bought in the back with me. My mom gets her camera out and turns around towards me, and I'm like, 'Wha?' and she's like, "Get out your picture." And I'm like, 'Hookay... Whatever you say mommasita..." So I pulled out everything in the bag and was like, "Now what?" My mom was like, "Keep looking!" So I looked back in the bag and saw a piece of cardboard. And on the cardboard was a piece of paper with Simba on it in pencil with red guide lines and an original artist's signature!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was like, "HOOO-HEMMMM-GEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!" and freaked out. Needless to say, it was an awesome picture. *huggles parents*

I saw Wall-E on vacation too. It was really cute, even if it was CG (which I still grudge for taking over Disney).

Last night I watched The Golden Compass and I have a daemon named Zyrxy. He's pretty awesome, and he's a lion. I'll try to draw a picture of him sometime so you all can get an idea of what he looks like.

Stuffs

Well, I'm completely and totally settled into my new room. I've got a scanner, photoshop, a tablet, and a hundred pages of a new sketch book. As a result of all this awesomeness, I'll do requests and such. Now I have to warn you that I'm new to requesting/trading/blabbity blah, so I'll probs be kinda dumb about certain things. But I'll take five requests/trades at any time, so just send me a note! I don't bite! :D

If you wanna request, just note me with the following info:

Character name:
Species:
DETAILED description:
Background details: (if you don't fill this in, I'll take the liberties myself :D)
Character expression: (again, if you don't fill it in, it'll probs end up just a smile)
Pose: (one more time, if you don't decide anything, I'll just do it myself, and you'll probably end up with a sitting character. Whee. Fun.)

If there's more than one character, just put the character name+species+description of the second/third/whatever character beneath the first. Oh, also tell me whether you'd like a black movie-boxish thingy around it and that type of stuff.

EDIT: Oh, and I forgot to mention that I might experiment a bit with the picture, so what I'll probs do is make one like I usually make one, and then maybe try something out on a second copy.

I'll also be going to Florida from the 20th (of June) to the 28th (also of June). I'm going on a huge family vacation. So I won't be uploading a ton 20-28, because well, I won't have a computer/scanner/photoshop with me. So yeah, that's that. I would be able to work on stuff sketch-wise though and be able to fix it up and make it look purty when I get back. So yeah. Disneyworld, here I come!

Save our cousins

Journal Entry: Fri May 2, 2008, 8:48 PM
I'd like to talk about something very important to me now.

I've recently started watching the show Escape to Chimp Eden on Animal Planet. It's one of my new favorite shows, and I highly reccomend it to the chimp lover. But something has made me sick to my stomach about that show: where the chimps come from. Bushmeat trade, tiny cages, roadside zoos, supposedly ' pet friendly' homes, while only sometimes shown in the show, are very common places for chipmanzees to end up. Possibly one of the most disturbing things about one of the episodes I've seen was there were a bunch of infants who were orphans, and only five of them could be rescued at the time. One of the infants that was left behind died after Eugene Cussons had left for Chimp Eden. Later on I watched an episode where Eugene went to a market to try and find live chimps to rescue. He found a stall where a man was openly displaying smoked chimpanzee meat in his stall, and, with a rather shady and sly looking grin, he claimed that he no longer knew where the live chimpanzees were. Eugene held a piece of the meat in his hands to try and emphasize his point and I nearly threw up.

Chimpanzees are shot and killed for the bushmeat trade, infants have their mothers brutally killed and taken from them, and end up as pets, wearing dresses and overalls, smoking cigarettes and chewing bubble gum. One of the most disturbing things about an infant being taken from it's mother is the fact that for every one infant chimpanzee that lives a year after it's been taken from it's mother, ten to twenty infants die.

It is up to humans to stop the bushmeat trade, stop the capture of infant chimpanzees, and stop the destroying of chimpanzee habitat. Chimps cause enough damage in their own communities sometimes (any time a male tries to rise to dominance, it's a dangerous time for any chimpanzee-like creature to be even near him), they don't need humans forcing them closer together and into smaller and smaller ranges.

Please, if you can, try to inform people of the things I just mentioned. You don't have to donate anything or go picket in a zoo because a chimpanzee is chewing bubble gum (frankly by that point it's far too late to let them go back to the wild. They're half-human by then. Not human enough though, to be a part of society, because they've still got chimp brain. That's another thing to think about. By capturing and containing chimps, we're taking away the thing that makes them chimps and turning them into a strange sort of metaphorical hybrid that can't really be described as one species or another.) What I'm trying to say is, just try to get the word out that chimpanzees are in danger of becoming even rarer, and possibly even becoming extinct eventually.

They share just a little bit under 2% of our DNA, so if they die out, we'll have lost something so close to us we can call it a cousin. By studying chimpanzees, we can, in theory, learn about human interaction and behavior. But we can't if there are no chimpanzees.

Well, I have a few things up, and surprisingly some of my stuff's been favorited and commented on. I nearly peed myself when I realized that. Not really, it's just an expression.

Anyways, just thought I'd pop up a new entry for my journal and tell you all to go check out SarabiLioness. She’s my best friend in Math class and a cool person in general. She's got some good stuff by the way. Seriously, check out her art. Lotsa Lion King stuff there.
